Getaway to Dubai: Where Every Moment Sparkles

My recent escapade to Dubai was nothing short of magical, a shimmering oasis of luxury and adventure from start to finish. Our journey began in style as we boarded an Emirates flight — picture plush seats, exceptional service, and a menu so divine it felt like a five-star restaurant had taken flight. Pro tip: don’t miss the chance to have a Polaroid photo snapped before you land. Trust me, it’s a quirky memento that adds a touch of nostalgia to your modern escapade.

Touchdown in Dubai was just the beginning of our adventure. As we landed in the afternoon, the city’s golden skyline beckoned us to the Hilton Hotel. The check-in was smoother than a luxury car ride, and the hotel itself? A blend of sophisticated ambiance and impeccable service. Our room had a view that made you want to stay in bed all day just to soak it all in.

Each day of our trip was marked by luxury, thanks to our stylish car service. We enjoyed rides in everything from Audi to BMW to Tesla — each one making us feel like VIPs.

That evening, we set sail on a Marina Cruise for dinner. Picture this: the sun setting over the water, casting a golden glow over the city’s architectural marvels, while we dined on a feast that was as delightful as it was delicious. It was a date night to remember, with the kind of views that make you wonder if you’ve accidentally walked into a postcard.

The next morning, our city tour was packed with iconic sights and unforgettable moments. We started with a classic abra ride along Dubai Creek, immersing ourselves in the city’s historic charm. From there, we took in the stunning spectacle of the Dubai Fountain, where the water dances to music and lights. The tour also included a visit to Palm Jumeirah, where we admired the luxury of Atlantis The Palm and the beautiful beach. We then explored Jumeirah Beach, soaking up the sun and taking in views of the iconic Burj Al Arab. To top it all off, we visited the Dubai Frame, offering a unique perspective of both old and new Dubai from its observation deck. Afterward, we headed to the Dubai Mall—a massive shopping paradise—before ascending to the 124th floor of the Burj Khalifa. The view was so incredible it almost made the elevator ride worth it. Almost. We also visited the Underwater Zoo, where I momentarily forgot I wasn’t actually underwater and tried to pet a penguin. Spoiler alert: penguins don’t do high-fives.

Day three saw us marveling at the Museum of the Future—a futuristic wonderland where innovation and imagination collide. It’s like stepping into a sci-fi movie, minus the aliens and bad CGI.

One of the highlights of our trip was the desert safari, an adventure that felt like stepping into another world. As we drove across the vast dunes, all you could see was sand stretching endlessly into the horizon. The experience was exhilarating, with dune bashing that had us laughing and gripping our seats. We took some amazing sunset pictures, capturing the sky’s fiery colors as they painted the sand in hues of gold and orange. Afterward, we arrived at a desert camp where we enjoyed a camel ride—an authentic touch to the desert experience. The evening culminated in a feast fit for royalty, with delicious traditional dishes that perfectly rounded off an unforgettable day in the dunes.

Our final day was dedicated to a shopping spree at the Dubai Mall. You’d think we’d be shopped out by now, but Dubai has a way of turning even the most committed window shopper into a retail enthusiast. The salespeople were so adept at enticing us with their perfume samples that I found myself walking out with a Gucci fragrance, despite having no prior intention of buying it. It was all part of the glamorous experience!

Reflecting on this trip, Dubai wasn’t just a destination; it was an experience wrapped in luxury and sprinkled with fun. From Emirates' excellent service and our daily luxury rides to unforgettable dining and sightseeing, it was a journey that sparkled as brightly as the city itself. If you ever find yourself in Dubai, remember to snap that Polaroid, savour every moment, and prepare to be dazzled.

Where to Stay in Dubai

Dubai offers a wide range of accommodations to suit every taste and budget, but for a truly luxurious experience, consider staying at some of the city’s most iconic hotels. The Burj Al Arab is perhaps the most famous, often referred to as the world’s only seven-star hotel, offering unparalleled opulence and stunning views. For a blend of luxury and convenience, the Hilton Dubai provides exceptional service and a central location, making it easy to explore the city’s attractions. If you prefer to be close to the beach, Atlantis The Palm on Palm Jumeirah offers a resort experience with its own waterpark and marine habitats. The Address Downtown is another excellent choice, offering modern elegance right next to the Dubai Mall and the Burj Khalifa.

If you’re on a budget, Dubai still has plenty of great options. Look for hotels in areas like Deira or Bur Dubai, where you can find comfortable accommodations at more affordable prices. Ibis Styles and Holiday Inn Express offer budget-friendly rates without compromising on quality. Additionally, consider staying in Al Barsha, which has a range of reasonably priced hotels and is conveniently located near shopping and dining options. With careful planning, you can enjoy the best of Dubai without breaking the bank.

Things you should know before going to Dubai

  • Dress Code and Etiquette: Dubai has a conservative dress code compared to many Western cities. While it's generally acceptable to wear casual clothing, modesty is appreciated, especially in public areas and religious sites. Women should cover their shoulders and knees, and it's best to avoid overly revealing attire. Additionally, respecting local customs and traditions, such as refraining from public displays of affection, is important in maintaining good manners.

  • Weather and Best Time to Visit: Dubai experiences extremely hot temperatures, especially from May to September, with highs often exceeding 40°C (104°F). The best time to visit is during the cooler months, from October to April, when temperatures are more comfortable, making it ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing. Be prepared for a warm climate and stay hydrated, as air conditioning is widespread indoors.

  • Cultural Sensitivities and Local Laws: Dubai is known for its strict laws and cultural norms. Public behavior is closely regulated, and violations can lead to fines or legal consequences. For example, drinking alcohol is only permitted in licensed establishments, and drug laws are very strict—possession of even small amounts can lead to severe penalties. Understanding and respecting local laws and customs will help ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit.
